construction Day 3

Here's what was done today.  The workers have quit for the weekend, so there won't be any more until Monday.  We are really pleased with how things are looking.  We can't wait until the walk and patio are paved!  I'm going to have to buy more bug spray.

Construction Day 2

On Thursday Harry and the landscaper decided to make the patio bigger than originally planned, so things took a little longer than we expected.  Here are some pictures.

Construction Day 1

It has been very busy around here this week.  Wednesday the landscapers came to start our new wall, walk and patio.  We have loved watching everything go up.  Here are pictures of our progress so far.

Morning

This morning I opened up the windows and listened to the birds sing. It is one of my favorite things. The cool air was wonderful and freshened the house. I'll have to close it up soon because of the heat, but hopefully, I can listen to the birds the rest of the week before we have to turn on the summer air conditioning. Now I have to get to work on bills and Rachel's taxes. I keep postponing them because it is such a bummer to deal with them. I had better get it over with.
Bye.

Hannah walking

Here is Hannah taking a few steps when I was in Denver for Dottie's party.  She walks much better now.

Audrey rocking her car seat

When I went to Colorado for Dottie's surprise birthday party, I got this video of Audrey in her car seat.  This is my first video, so bear with me.

Doctor visit

Well, I have returned from a visit to the orthopedist.  He is pleased with the range of motion I have with my arm, but he wants me to be careful with it.  He doesn't want me to do any lifting, and he specifically said that this includes weeding and lifting mulch, although he said I could weed with my left hand.  So the big news is that Harry is considering  having the landscapers put in plants and mulch after they build the walk and patio.  This break is getting very expensive.  The doctor compared my arm to a fragile teacup and said I couldn't do any lifting for  6 to 8 weeks.  Ugh!  I'm not getting a lot done around here.  The good news is that I had my first good night's sleep since the break last night.

I still have moments of sadness when I think of my Dad and the funeral service.  I still have to write the thank you notes for the flowers, but have all the other ones done.  The hardest one was to the man who did the service, but I tried to be gracious.  It's a good thing Harry didn't have to write it.  I don't think I want to repeat what he wanted to say.

Becky called when she got the letter from the lawyer about my Dad's will to ask what it meant.  I am glad she felt free to call.  Now that I know her number, I can call her, too.

Thank all you kids for coming to Colorado for the burial.  It meant a lot to have you there.  Dad says that the grandkids were just what I needed after the emotions of Kansas.

I will try to figure out how to post pictures.  I have a couple from Aunt Dottie's birthday party as well as the trip to Kansas and Denver.  Right now it is more urgent I figure out how to straighten out Rachel and Craig's taxes.

Thanks for your love and prayers.

Remembering Daddy singing.

When I talked to Beccy tonight, the thing she said she missed most while we were in Denver is remembering Granddaddy.  She wasn't there while my siblings and I wrote down some of our memories of my Dad.  I guess the thing I miss the most is my Dad's singing.  I have missed it ever since he went to live in Kansas.  When we would go on trips, my Dad would start singing while he was driving and pretty soon we would all forget the stress and bickering that would start out the trips and my Mom would join him in singing.  The real vacation began as they sang going down the road wherever we went.  When we camped, we would sing together around the campfire.  Daddy used to sing around the house as he worked.  I miss that a lot.  These last few years he didn't sing, and I guess he didn't have much to sing about.  His world had become circumscribed to his house in Kansas and an occasional jaunt to the doctor or a restaurant.  That's why we wanted Beccy to sing one of the songs we remember at the graveside service.  Music was a big part of our family's life and we wanted that to be there at the end.  It is said that God inhabits the praises of His people, and I remember my Dad praising God as he sang throughout my life.  I hope our family will honor his memory by continuing to praise God as we sing wherever we are.

Now I Have a Blog

My girls think I need a blog, so here it is.  I'm tired tonight, so there won't be more until morning.
